Jolt a’ Woldt

As can happen, it gets to be slim pickens during the summer months as far as RB action on 5-6-7. This past Monday Stan, Tim, Jammer and Duane had some fun while Wednesday brought Kraut over to hit with Tim and Mike Janse. Thursday Duane, Bruce and I played some cut-throat and then Friday was the day that Duane and I got our heads handed to us by Tim. Now, the fact that Duane was playing left handed and I was using a ping-pong paddle is no excuse. Tim did play well and is the POW (Player of the Week).

Why not make an attempt to make it down at least once this week. It’s good to stay in the groove and it provides the best chance for doubles matches which is what most of us want anyway. Make a note to check the schedule and then fire off an e-mail letting the group know when you will be on your way.

Larry’s Locker Room Ramblings

I’d say that Mr. Larry P has probably been golfing up a storm! He was nice enough to forward over a couple “Buddy Holly Crash” sites that I have taken into account for my official final report later in this RR. I’m not sure if it was made clear in the credits that Larry was the one who sent over the “American Pie” lyric interpretations. On that note, Larry, take it away…

Thanks, Steve. I learned a lot about golf this week. I learned never to get in the $100 hole-in-one club. My friend, Bernie, aced #13 at Eagle Creek today with a beautiful 7 iron shot into the wind. Got to visit my local credit union tomorrow to restock some bills.

A few days ago I was playing at Westridge on the par 3 hole #7. The pin was back, so I figured it was going to take a 5 iron to get it to the hole. After hitting a wonderful tee shot, I guessed I had mis-judged something because my ball went over the back of the green. The other three guys hit. As I was putting back my 5 iron, I noticed it wasn't in its usual spot in my bag. At that moment I realized I had hit my 2 iron! Oops. I was 55 yards past the center of the green--and found out that there is more than one way to have a double bogie on your scorecard!!!!

It's been another three months of Tips articles, so this week I have summarized tips that Steve & I have shared with everyone over this past quarter. We hope you are taking advantage of the knowledge & applying it to your racquetball game!

NBBs-AWOL

We have been joking over the last few weeks about Rich being gone and not knowing where he is. He did drop an e-mail about 10 days ago and then we have lost him again. I’d say it’s been five weeks or so since he has been down. As I think of AWOL players I ask, “Where is Kyle?” I hope you are all right. I don’t have his cell or would give him a shout. How is Jeff Hendrickson doing? (Maybe Larry can give us a report)

NBBer Mike Krieman did report that Rich said that he was going to fill-in for his softball team this past week. Did he show Mike? Did he charge an appearance fee, which has been pretty much customary, post 3/25 tourney championship? Did he charge the kids for autographs? If you guys are out there, give a holler soon. To say we miss you would be a little thick, but we do want to know how you’re doing.

Larry reports seeing Jeff most days at Westridge Golf Club. Jeff is the assistant professional--and one of the best in greeting customers. He also is active with the junior golf program at Westridge. His golf game is great. I really don't know how someone of his size can hit a golf ball so far. Rumor has it that he has to change golf balls every few holes because of the structural damage created in the core his Titleists.

All Your Eggs in One Bottle?

Krieman and Peterson are investment types who may like this-I could see getting something like this from Bruce-but I could see Kraut “trying” this. Read on…

If you had purchased $1000 of Nortel stock six years ago, it would now be worth $49. With Enron, you would have $16.50 left of the original investment. With WorldCom you would have less than $5. However, if you had purchased $1000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling REFUND, you would have $214!!!

What’s Steve’s investment advice? Drink heavily and recycle—it’s called the 401-Keg Plan!

Question….”Why don’t women fart? Answer….Because they don’t stop talking long enough for the required build up of pressure! (Don’t send this report to the wife-especially mine all right?)

Dave Small has a nice close out on some rb gloves and does appreciate our business very much. I took a few racquets over for stringing the past few weeks and put some tubular grips on a few too. Did you see where he did pretty well in the city of Appleton golf Championship flight last weekend?

I currently have a virus on my computer. Time to call Duane…you should too when you need help….920-428-9805. I know he just helped Bruce this week.

Now, to better follow my “Buddy Holly Crash Report” which will be below, refer to these sites, please. Larry sent them over to me within minutes after he published the RR – June 19.

Mystery of Buddy Holly

Give them a read before you read my final report. If you did not read last week’s RR where we did our first report, you may want to review now. Enjoy…

Steve’s Final “Buddy Holly Crash Report”

I must admit I was absolutely impressed with the consistency of what Mr. Dwyer told me on 9/17/98 at the Mason City Airport about the Buddy Holly Tragedy from the sites that Larry sent over to me last Sunday night. At present I have a computer virus and it will not let me go to the Internet, so I will go from memory as to what the sites reported about this mystery.

The first site “classicbands” is the one that talks of the possibility of the rumor of a bullet in the back of the pilot’s seat, I believe. It talks about the fact that Dwyer would not answer somebody’s questions about this. The second site, in my opinion, (fiftiesweb) is veeeerrrryyyyy revealing and powerful! Click on and read the Aeronautics Report in its entirety and I believe it will confirm the following that Dwyer told me. First, that it was his plane that crashed. Second, he knew the pilot and did not believe the weather was bad. Clearly, it is also clear that Mr. Dwyer was there that night and saw them get on the plane like he told me.

Obviously the media has never confirmed Dwyer’s assertion that pilot Peterson was shot by Holly. I really think, him being the last one that saw these guys had a good idea of what may have happened. So, here is my take on what I think happened based on what the websites said and my recollections of the conversation with Dwyer.

Dwyer told me that Holly was drunk-really plastered - sh - t-faced as we used to say. He told me that crazily Holly was carrying a handgun with him. Gun and drunk, not a good combination! I trust him when he says that the pilot or weather were not a problem as they said in the Aeronautics Report. I think he knows something that has been covered up; mainly that the pilot’s body had a bullet hole in it. I think he got wind of this somehow, I really do. I wish I could most remember this part of the conversation.

Of course if Holly did do this as a result of his being careless while inebriated and it would have hit the media, it would have tarnished his image. I think that if they did ever find this out they would have been quick to try to plead to have this covered up. Or, over the years Dwyer was anxious to share his secrets of knowing about Holly’s condition, the gun and the bullet in body with a few people, but not as anxious to embarrass Holly and his people in this way. As I said last week, in this day and age, autopsies (see Holly’s) and the technology would reveal nearly exactly what happened I’m sure.

Again, I am awed by how much the details of my conversation with him line up with what’s on the website. Lastly, when I was working in Iowa in the early 80s I had heard that Holly’s horn-rimmed glasses had been found hanging on a fence at the scene and 22-years later in 1981 were being returned to his widow. I thought that was hyped-up bull at the time. Now, after having read the report and the fact they did crash near a fence I believe this could have been true. Another weird trivia fact was that Holly was going to take some lessons when he returned to Texas….flying lessons!!!

(From camera one to camera two) Until next week….for RR “Investigative Reports”--- I’m Steve Rose….Have a great week. (Fade away then to black and roll the credits)
